Rider Advancement Page
The most commonly asked question is how do Rider Advancements work? Let's take it straight from the rulebook.
|
b. Rider Classification (1) Rider classifications shall include A, B and C as indicated in Chapter 2, Section B, paragraph 1 of these rules. (2) Riders advance from one rider classification to the next higher classification based on their Rider Performance Value (RPV). (3) A rider may choose at any time to advance to a higher rider classification. (4) A rider may not return to a lower classification without AMA approval. (5) Riders are responsible to enter only classes in which they are eligible. See Chapter 7, Section B paragraph 5b for the penalty. (6) A rider may ask to be reclassified as described in Chapter 2, Section B paragraph 3 of these rules. c. National Advancement System (1) Riders will receive advancement points for participation in all AMA sanctioned motocross, arenacross, stadiummotocross (or any similar activity) meets. AMA riders advance from one classification to the next through their successful participation in AMA sanctioned meets. Advancement criteria will be reviewed annually by the Motocross Committee of AMA Congress or as needed by the Executive Committee. (2) Riders will be advanced at the end of each year effective December 31st. *(3) In series’ that roll over into a new year, riders’ must begin the series in the class they will compete in during the new year. A rider cannot continue racing their class from the previous year if they are no longer eligible as of December 31st. (4) Riders who participate in a higher level classification at any AMA or non AMA track will be considered as advanced to that classification. (5) All “C” riders carrying an RPV of 10 or higher at year end will be advanced to the “B” class. (6) All “B” riders carrying an RPV of 15 or higher at year end will be advanced to the “A” class. (7) Rider Performance Value (RPV) (a) To be considered for advancement a rider must have a minimum of 6 points paying class finishes within the riders classification. However, the RPV for each class will be calculated separately. (b) Riders will earn performance points based on their finishes at each meet according to the following schedules: (1) Class with 4-20 entries Finish Points 1st . . . . . . . . . . . .20 2nd . . . . . . . . . . .16 3rd . . . . . . . . . . .13 4th . . . . . . . . . . . .11 5th . . . . . . . . . . . .10 6th . . . . . . . . . . . . .9 7th . . . . . . . . . . . . .8 8th . . . . . . . . . . . . .7 9th . . . . . . . . . . . . .6 10th . . . . . . . . . . . .5 11th . . . . . . . . . . . .4 12th . . . . . . . . . . . .3 13th . . . . . . . . . . . .2 14th . . . . . . . . . . . .1 (2) Class with 21 entries Finish Points 1st . . . . . . . . . . . .30 2nd . . . . . . . . . . .25 3rd . . . . . . . . . . .21 4th . . . . . . . . . . . .18 5th . . . . . . . . . . . .16 6th . . . . . . . . . . . .15 7th . . . . . . . . . . . .14 8th . . . . . . . . . . . .13 9th . . . . . . . . . . . .12 10th . . . . . . . . . .11 11th . . . . . . . . . .10 12th . . . . . . . . . . . .9 13th . . . . . . . . . . . .8 14th . . . . . . . . . . . .7 15th . . . . . . . . . . . .6 16th . . . . . . . . . . . .5 17th . . . . . . . . . . . .4 18th . . . . . . . . . . . .3 20th . . . . . . . . . . . .1 Example: A rider has 18 class entries. He earns 256 points combined in 15 of those classes and no points in the other three. To calculate the RPV the total points earned (256) are divided by the total number of class entries in which points were earned (15). 256 divided by 15 = RPV of 17.06. The rider’s RPV of 17.06 exceeds the 15 point cutoff and he is advanced to the “A” class. *(8) If a rider is from a district without recognized C classes, the rider will not be considered for C class if they competed in any form of motorcycle or minicycle racing prior to 2005. (9) If a rider lives within an AMA Recognized District with official C classes the following guidelines are to be used by the District when first determining the rider’s eligibility for the “C” class: *(a) No rider is to be classified as a C rider if the rider competed prior to the current racing season, unless he/she normally finished in the lower 30% of the B class. No youth rider in youth classes 11,12, 15 or 16 carrying a RPV of 10 or higher at year end will be allowed to be classified as a C rider. (b) No rider is to be classified as a C rider if that rider has ever been classified as an A or Expert rider. (c) No rider is to be classified as a C rider if that rider has qualified for the AMA Amateur Nationals in any previous year in any class. (d) No rider is to to be classified as a C rider if that rider is receiving or has ever received any type of OEM factory support in any class. (10) Riders between the ages of 12 and 14 riding in the “B” class and have met the R.P.V. requirements cannot be forced to advance to the “A”class until January 1 following their 15th birthday. Riders in this age group may advance on their own ability/competence. |
Now to give you an example, I will use riders from the picture that follows:
Take number 619. That's Tyler Reynolds in the start at Action Town in the 125C class. Tyler finished 2nd in the D-13 Points Series in 2006. He accumulated 390 points during 19 events. Here is the formula: 390 divided by 19 equals 20.53. That is his RPV. It exceeds 10 which means he is being advanced to B class. Now let's look at number 217. That's Jacob Webster. He had 44 advancement points and received those points from 8 races. 44 divided by 8 equals 5.5. That's way below 10 so Jacob gets to stay in C class for 2007.
I hope this helps everyone to understand the advancement process. If you have any further questions send an e-mail to MXCRAZY@verizon.net.
